Ella Jane Smith Brown, 86, passed away peacefully Friday, April 30, 2021, after a period of declining health.
She was born Feb. 1, 1935, in Sampson County, to the late James Elmer Smith Sr. and Leona Henry Smith Carter.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Morganton, and a member of the Agape Sunday School class. Ella was a founding member of the Chrismon Committee and a member of the Flower Committee. She loved flowers, gardening and sewing. When it came to flowers, she had a “green thumb” and she loved to share them with others.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harold F. Brown Jr.; stepfather, William J. Carter; son, David W. Brown; and brother, James Smith Jr.
Ella is survived by a daughter, Nan Brown Isaacs (Jim); granddaughter, Meagan Isaacs; daughter-in-law, Pam Fender Brown; sister-in-law, Betsy Easter; and several nephews.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m., Wednesday, May 5, 2021 in the Kistler Annex at the First Baptist Church of Morganton. The service will begin at 2 p.m. in the church with Dr. Thomas A. Bland Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Burke Memorial Park. The family requests masks be worn and practice social distancing.
Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church of Morganton or to Burke Hospice and Palliative Care.
Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
