Elmer Larry Meise, 82, of Myrtle St., Morganton, NC, died Friday, October 10, 2008, at his residence. Born in Baltimore County, MD on October 12, 1925, he was the son of the late Lawrence Bernard Meise and Barbara Catherine Baier Meise. Elmer attended Glen Alpine United Methodist Church. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the European, African, Asian, and Pacific Theaters of WWII and the Korean Conflict where he received Unit Citation, WWII Service Awards, Korean Service Award, National Defense Award, and the medal of Appreciation from Korea on the 50th Anniversary of the conflict. He was retired from Greenville Steel and worked at Great Lakes Carbon and Valdese Manufacturing.Surviving are sons, David Meise and wife, Debbie Leonard; Gary Meise and wife, Debbie Foust all of Glen Alpine; grandchildren, Tracey Allison Meise Cork, Matthew Bryan Meise, Nathaniel David Meise, and Rebekah Ann Meise; and great grandchild, Connor Cork.In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Irene Louise Atkins Meise, six brothers and three sisters.The funeral will be held at 4:00 p.m., Sunday, October 12, 2008 in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home with Rev. David Duncan officiating. Burial will follow in Calvin Heights Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
