Elsie Clark Barrier

Elsie Clark Barrier, 95, of Jonas Ridge passed after a lingering illness at Cannon Hospital on Wednesday, June 10, 2009. She was born in Avery County on February 18, 1914 and was a daughter of the late Elgie and Margaret Bowman Clark. Elsie enjoyed reading, gardening, quilting, and gospel music and was a member of Jonas Ridge Baptist Church. She had a great love for her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. As a devoted member of Jonas Ridge Baptist Church, Elsie lived, loved, and taught the love of God.Left to carry on her memory are three sons, Isaac Barrier, Roy Barrier, and Arvel Barrier; two daughters, Stella Gallion and Jane Holden all of Jonas Ridge; 27 grandchildren; over 58 great-grandchildren; and 22 great-great-grandchildren.In addition to her parents, Elsie was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Silas Christopher Barrier, and by daughters, Alice Mae Barrier Whetsel and Brenda Kay Barrier Wheeler.The funeral will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, June 13, 2009, at Jonas Ridge Baptist church with Rev. Jude Hughes officiating. Burial will follow at Gingercake Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Gage Gallion, Jessie St. John, Robert Garland, Dennis Barrier and John Gallion. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Friday at Sossoman Funeral Home. At other times the family will be at her residence on Barrier Avenue.
