Emerson David Berry

Emerson David Berry, 69 of Glen Alpine, passed away at Grace Heights after a brief illness on Thursday, June 27, 2019.  He was born in Burke County on October 4, 1949 to the late Emerson and Edith Autrey Berry.  He retired from JIRDC and was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church in Glen Alpine.  David enjoyed working in his garden, sharing his produce and visiting the mountains, which he considered his second home.  He was always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need and was loved and respected by his peers.

David was a tackle for Glen Alpine High School from 1963 – 1966 where he took part in the Shrine Bowl and made all conference in 1966. David made all western NC second team and was in the top 4 out of the top 100.

David is survived by Brenda J. Whisenant, Freddie B., Whisenant, Doff and Teresa Browning, all of Morganton; numorous cousins and many special friends; his four canine companions, Charlie, Maylee, Petie and Stubby.

A graveside service will be held to celebrate David’s life at 11:00 am, on Saturday, July 6, 2019 at Burke Memorial Park with Rev. John Terry officiating.

Memorial contribution can be made to First Baptist Church in Glen Alpine and to the Humane Society.
