Emily Lucille Happoldt Cox

Emily Lucille Happoldt Cox, 94, of Piedmont Road, Morganton, NC went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, November 26, 2013. Born in Burke County, NC on June 29, 1919, she was the daughter of the late William and Minnie Happoldt. She was a member of Logan Memorial Baptist Church for 35 years where she had been a member of the choir, Sunday school teacher, and church clerk. She was also a member of Zion Baptist Church for 16 years. Emily loved her church and her church family. She was also an honorary member of the Eastern Star and worked for Broadway Cleaners for 28 years.Those left to cherish Emily’s memory include her devoted husband of 60 years, Wesley P. Cox of the home; a sister, Minnie Dorcus H. Funderburk; nephews, Dr. Earnest Harrison and his wife, Karen, Milton Harrison and his wife, Geraldine, William Hodge and his wife, Venora "Flea"; a niece, Othella Edwards; a number of other nieces and nephews whom she loved very much and kept watch over; a host of friends and neighbors; and a close friend, Charles Ramsey, who was always there.In addition to her parents, Emily was preceded in death by two brothers, Samuel Happoldt and William Happoldt; and a sister, Laura Mae Harrison.The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, November 30, 2013 at Zion Baptist Church with Dr. Steve Parker, Rev. Dr. Ralph May, and Rev. Keith Rose officiating. Burial will follow in Cox Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. prior to the service.Memorial contributions may be made to Zion Baptist Church Building Fund, 3396 Pea Ridge Road, Morganton, NC 28655.Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
