Emmett Powell

Emmett Powell, 76, of Morganton, NC died Wednesday, April 15, 2014. Born in Burke County, NC on February 19, 1938, he was the son of the late Jessie Powell and Alice Roseavelt Whisenant Powell. Emmett was a member of Zion Baptist Church. He was a member of the Oak Hill Ruritan and has perfect attendance for 51 years. Emmett was also an avid supporter and participant of the Democratic Party.Mr. Powell is survived by his children, Dwayne E. Powell and Connie P. Ollis, both of Morganton; grandchildren, Dana and Martin Ollis; and a number of nieces and nephews.In addition to his parents, Emmett was preceded in death by siblings, Luther Powell, Gorman Powell, Vernon Powell, Ervin Powell, Ray Powell, Guy Powell, twin brother Bennett Powell, Macie Keller, and Leonard Powell; and an infant brother, Franklin Powell.The funeral will be held at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, April 19, 2014 at Zion Baptist Church with Dr. Steve Parker officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
