Emory T. Alwran, 86, of Morganton died Sunday, November 25, 2012 at the Burke Palliative Care Center. Born in Burke County, NC on September 23, 1926, he was the son of the late Emory Dewey Alwran and Mamie Grigg Alwran. Emory was a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII, serving in both the Atlantic and Pacific Theaters, crossing the Atlantic Ocean 7 times. He sold furniture for Thomasville Furniture until his retired in 1992. He then moved to Morganton and was a member of First United Methodist Church.Emory is survived by his wife of 65 years, Betty Parks Alwran of the home, and a sister, Ann Lyndsey Beasley and her husband, Red, of Gastonia, NC.The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 28, 2012 in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center with Rev. Dr. John Fowler officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery with military honors provided by the N.C. National Guard. The family will receive friends at the funeral home for one hour prior to the service.Memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church, 200 N. King Street, Morganton, NC 28655.
