Ernest E. Watkins

Ernest E. Watkins, 91, of Morganton, NC died Wednesday, December 4, 2013. Born in Marshall County, IN on November 16, 1922, he was the son of the late Henry Watkins and Catherine "Kate" Miller Watkins. Ernest enjoyed golf, bowling, and horseshoes.Mr. Watkins is survived by his wife of 68 years, Eleanor Bailey Watkins of the home; children, Ernie Ann Metheny and her husband, Allen, of Avon Park, FL, Melody Sellers and her husband, Eddie, of Morganton; and Fred Watkins and his wife, Leigh, of Warsaw, IN; grandchildren, Eric Metheny and his wife, Marsha, Nicole Stewart and her husband, Eric, Andrea Frye and her husband, Jason, Autumn Carrera, Erica Munyaneza and her husband, Amon, and Jessica Marshall and her husband, John; great-grandchildren, Vince Metheny, Jacqueline Metheny, Rebecca Stewart, Rachel Stewart, Emma Robinson, Zain Frye, Estrella Esteban, Ossiel. Carrera, Jose A. Esteban, Acacia Munyaneza, Keza Munyaneza, and Maya Marshall; siblings, Phyllis Blosser, Delores Klotz and her husband, Willard, Cleo Brown, and June Ganshorn; and two sisters-in-law, Mary Evelyn Watkins and Eleanor Watkins.In addition to his parents, Ernest was preceded in death by three brothers, Theodore, Dale, and Max Watkins; two infant brothers; and four sisters, Gladys Border, Jessie Danner, Hilda Strang, and Glee McDonald.The funeral will be held at 6:00 p.m., Saturday, December 7, 2013 in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center with Dr. David Mills and Rev. Eddy Bunton officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 until 6:00 p.m. prior to the service. Interment will be held at a later date at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Bourbon, IN.
