Ernest M. Morgan, 87, of Adventist Circle, Morganton, NC, died Saturday, October 4, 2008 at the Palliative Care Center of Catawba County Hospice in Newton, NC following a period of declining health. Born in Hendersonville, NC on October 1, 1921, he was the son of the late William Morgan and Marie Foster Morgan Acuff. Mr. Morgan served in World War II with the U. S. Army in the Pacific Theater. He was a member of Table Rock Seventh Day Adventist Church and was a graduate of Morganton High School. Ernest received his B.S. degree from Southern University in Chattanooga, TN and his masters degree from Appalachian State Teachers College in Boone, NC. He worked for 21 years for the Department of Defense Educational System in Morocco, Germany, and Spain. Ernest served as a Burke County Commissioner.A wonderful husband, father, and grandfather, he is survived by his wife, Louise Powell Morgan of the home; a son, Ernest W. "Ernie" Morgan of Morganton; grandchildren, Phyllis Ann Morgan Clendenen and Yasmine Kenzie Morgan; great-grandchildren, Isabelle and Knox Clendenen; brothers, Dr. Calvin Acuff and Fred Acuff, both of Morganton.In addition to his parents, Ernest was preceded in death by his step-father, Fred Acuff; brothers, Foster W. Morgan and James Acuff; and a sister, Virginia Breen.The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, October 7, 2008 at Table Rock Seventh Day Adventist Church with Pastor Eric Annandale officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors by Valdese American Legion Post #234. The family will receive friends Monday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Sossoman Funeral Home where the body will remain until placed in the church thirty minutes prior to the funeral hour.
