Ervin W. Williams

Ervin W. Williams, 92, of Morganton, NC died Thursday, April 17, 2014. Born in Burke County, NC on September 6, 1921, he was the son of the late Grover Scott Williams and Donnie Mae Poteat Williams. Ervin was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII and was a member of Mountain View #2 Baptist Church.A loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather, and great-grandfather, Mr. Williams is survived by his wife of 73 years, Bonnie Hipps "Sue" Williams; daughters, Judy Williams Crawley and her husband, Jim, and Sandy Williams Browning and her husband, Marty, all of Morganton; grandchildren, Tracy Crawley and his wife, Laura, Belinda Helms and her husband, Scott, Darren Browning and his wife, Jenny, Bradley Browning and his wife, LaDonna, and Jonathan Browning and his wife, Greta; great-grandchildren, Wilson Crawley, Evan Crawley, Grant Helms, Brandon Helms, Jacob Browning, Alex Browning, Emily Browning, Madison Browning, Luke Browning, Caleb Browning, Aaron Browning, Sarah Browning, Morgan Cargill, and Evan Cargill; a brother, Grover S. Williams, Jr. and his wife, Judy, of Alabama; a sister, Betty Jean Ballew of Glen Alpine; and a number of nephews and nieces.In addition to his parents, Ervin was preceded in death by his daughter, Linda Rae Williams; brothers, Willie Williams, Oliver Williams, Howard Williams, Leroy "Lard" Williams, Marshall Williams, Andrew Williams, and Friday Poteat.The funeral will be held at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, April 20, 2014 at Mountain View #2 Baptist Church with the Rev. Kenneth Mashburn officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors provided by the N.C. National Guard and the Caldwell County Veterans Honor Guard. The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center where the body will remain until placed in the church thirty minutes prior to the funeral hour.Memorial contributions may be made to Mountain View #2 Baptist Church, 5510 Watson Price Road, Morganton, NC 28655.
