Esper Crump Chapman

Esper Crump Chapman, 94, of Settlemyer St., Drexel, NC died Wednesday, December 13, 2006 at Grace Heights following a period of declining health. She was born in Caldwell County, NC on April 27, 1912 and was the daughter of the late William Wesley Crump and Mamie Hood Crump. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Ernest Chapman; brothers, Fred and Gene Crump; sisters, Beulah Crump, Connie Moore, Violet Coffey; and a grandchild, William Lee Chapman, II. She was a member of Drexel First Baptist Church.

Esper is survived by sons, William Lee Chapman of Morganton, NC and Larry Joe Chapman of Hickory, NC; daughters, Wanda Chapman Sampson of Springdale, AK, Gayle Chapman Murphy of Ocala, FL, and Karen Chapman Shifflett of Spotsylvania, VA; grandchildren, Kathy Hagmann, Susan Chapman, Samuel Chapman, Joe Baxter, Laura Beck, Roy Chapman Sampson, Donald Murphy, Rodrick Murphy, Jeffery Murphy, Shane Shifflett, Joe Shifflett, and Tony Shifflett; nineteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

The funeral will be held at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, December 17, 2006 at the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home with the Reverend Tito Madrazo officiating. Burial will follow at Burke Memorial Park. The family will receive friends the funeral home one hour prior to the service. At other times the family will be at the residence of William Chapman on Summers Rd.
