Essie “Dorothy” Hudson Morrow, 87, of Morganton, NC went home to be with the Lord on Monday, October 24, 2022.
Born in Cleveland County, NC on July 5, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Arrie Hudson and Barbara Lou Hoyle Hudson. Dorothy was a faithful, traditional, Christian lady and an active member of Shady Grove Baptist Church. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who always put her family and church first.
Dorothy retired from Henredon Furniture and then became a caretaker for the elderly for many years. She enjoyed working in her yard and taking care of her flowers. She was an excellent cook and was known for her chicken and dumplings.
Mrs. Morrow is survived by her son, Charles Howard Worley; step-sons, John Adam Morrow and Robert Morrow; daughter-in-law, Mary Sue Worley; grandchildren, Jason Worley, Arrie H. Worley, Peggy Worley, P.J. Worley, Joanie Worley, and Eddie Worley; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; brothers, Wayne and Fred Hudson; numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family; and her feline companion, Tinkey.
In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her first husband, L. Z. Worley; second husband, James E. Morrow; son, Edward D. Worley; brothers, Arrie Esper “Pete” Hudson and Frank Hudson; and sisters, Vernie Pruett, Marsol Ollis, Beulah Hudson, and Carroll Hudson.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m., Friday, October 28, 2022 at Shady Grove Baptist Church. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. in the church with Rev. Billy Mace officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Carolina Foothills or to Burke County Meals on Wheel.
