Eugene "Gene" Buchanan

Eugene "Gene" Buchanan, 81, of Connelly Springs, went to be with his Lord and Savior after an extended illness on Sunday, November 10, 2013. He was born in Mitchell County, NC on March 3, 1932 and was the son of the late John Buchanan and Ada Snyder Buchanan.

Gene retired from the City of Valdese where he had worked in the maintenance department and was a member of Connelly Springs Freewill Baptist Church.He is survived by son, Danny Buchanan and wife, Mary of Kansas City, KS; step-son, Roby "Bud" Barrier and wife Cristina of Treemont, UT; daughter, Debbie Reeder of Asheville; step-daughters, Candace Barrier of Old Fort, Roberta Bennett and husband, Doug of Conyers, GA, Pat LaFevers of Morganton; brother, Buster Buchanan of Spruce Pine; sister, Virginia Lowman and husband, Wendell of Connelly Springs; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Lorene Ledford Buchanan; second wife, Virginia Jolene Shell Buchanan, and brother, John Buchanan, Jr.The funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 13, 2013 at Connelly Springs Freewill Baptist Church with Reverends Rick Davis, Aaron Causby, Brian Wilson and Nathan Lowman officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. At other times the family will be at the home of Wendell and Virginia Lowman. Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family.
