Eva Estelle Carswell

Eva Estelle Carswell, 94, of Morganton, NC died Wednesday, July 29, 2015.  Born in Burke County, NC on November 17, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Andrew Laughridge and Lizzie Carswell Laughridge.  Eva was a strong Christian woman of the Baptist faith.  She was an excellent cook and homemaker, an avid flower gardener, and a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister.  Always ready at a moment’s notice, Eva enjoyed vacationing with her family and eating out, especially at A.J.’s Restaurant.

Mrs. Carswell is survived by her children, Arlean Carswell Williams and her husband, Bill, Carol Carswell, Kelley Carswell and his wife, Judy, Ralph Carswell, and companion, Lisa Penley, and Wayne Carswell, all of Morganton, and Rosemarie Johnson and her husband, James, of Marion, NC; grandchildren, Scott Carswell and his wife, Jonie, Peggy Younce and her husband, Brian, Dr. Briana Shelton and her husband, Joel, Dr. Amy Buchanan and her husband, Adam, and Wendy Nicole Johnson; six great-grandchildren; a sister, Eloise Conley of Hickory, NC; a brother, Johnny Laughridge and his wife, of Morganton; and a sister-in-law, Elizabeth Laughridge of Valdese, NC.

In addition to her parents, Eva was preceded in death by her husband, Zero Manuel Carswell; sisters, Ethel Spurling and Josephine Davis; and brothers, Howard, Billy, and Charlie Laughridge.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 3:00 p.m., Saturday, August 1, 2015 at Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center.  The funeral will be held in the Colonial Chapel of the funeral home at 3:00 p.m. with the Rev. Douglas St. John officiating.  Burial will follow in Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.
