Evart A. Braun, 89, of NC 181, Morganton, NC died Thursday, October 22, 2009 following a short period declining health. Born in Stark County, ND on October 10, 1920, he was the son of the late Fredricke Braun and Loretta Roberts Braun. Evart was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church of which he and his wife were one of the three founding families. He was a 3rd degree member of the Knights of Columbus. Evart was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of WWII.Evart is survived by his wife of 63 years, Rosemary Yates Braun of the home; sons, William Braun of Boone, NC, Anthony Braun and wife, Sandy, of Drexel, NC, and Paul Braun and wife, Mary, of Morganton; daughters, Cathleen Braun of Morganton, Suzanne F. Duncan and husband, Bobby of Morganton, and Laurie Braun of Philadelphia, PA; a brother, Robert Braun of Bozeman, MT; a sister, Jessie Lapp of Pendleton, OR; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and extended family, Leone Miller and Linda Lewis, both of whom were raised by Evart and Rosemary.In addition to his parents, Evart was preceded in death by a son, Aubrey Braun; a daughter, Emily Stump; brothers, Harwig, Barney, and Fred Braun; and sisters, Anna Wolters, Ora Eggert, and Ethel Johnson.The funeral mass will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, October 26, 2009 at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church with Father Kenneth Whittington officiating. Burial will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain, NC. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 6:30 until 8:00 p.m. at Sossoman Funeral Home with a recitation of the Rosary beginning at 6:15 p.m. The family will also receive friends at the church half an hour prior to the service. At other times the family will be at the residence. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 728 W. Union Street, Morganton, NC 28655.
