Evelyn Byrd Whisenant

Evelyn Byrd Whisenant, 87, of Fletcher Street, Morganton, NC, a very devoted wife and mother, went to her heavenly home on Wednesday, September 20, 2006 at Carolina Rehab in Connelly Springs, NC. Born August 8, 1919 in Ervin, TN, she is the daughter of the late James Henry Fox and Hannah Styles Fox. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Claud Byrd, and two sons, Steve and James Byrd. Evelyn retired from Drexel Heritage Furniture Co. and was a member of Glen Alpine First Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband, Ervin Whisenant of the home; a son, Royce L. Byrd and wife, Olivia, of Glen Alpine, NC; a daughter, Norma Ross and husband, Clyde, of Glen Alpine; two brothers, Eugene Fox of Morganton and John C. Fox of Hickory, NC; two sisters, Ethel Pritchard and Lillian Harris, both of Morganton; six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be held at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, September 23, 2006 at First Baptist Church of Glen Alpine with Rev. Michael Brown officiating. Burial will follow in Burke Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to Burke Hospice & Palliative Care, Inc, 1721 Enon Road, Valdese, NC 28690 or to the First Baptist Church of Glen Alpine Building Fund, P.O.
