Evelyn Morgan Dees of Morganton died Wednesday, November 28, 2012 at the Hospice Home of Alamance, Burlington, NC. Born in Frisco City, Alabama, she was the daughter of the late John Thomas Morgan and Clara Victoria Hipp Morgan. She attended Alabama College in Montevallo, AL and following her graduation she worked for the U.S. Corps of Engineers in Mobile, AL. After Evelyn and her husband, the late Amos Eric Dees moved to Morganton, she was employed as secretary/treasurer at First Baptist Church from 1962 until 1982. Following her retirement she volunteered with several organizations including the Grace Hospital Guild, Burke Hospice, and the Red Cross. In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by a number of brothers and sisters.Surviving are her children, Sandra Dees Fielding of Mebane, NC and Phillip Dees and his wife, Connie of Elm City, NC; grandchildren, Jack Fielding, Morgan Fielding, and Erica Dees; and a number of nephews and nieces.A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Friday, November 30, 2012 in the First Baptist Church Chapel with Dr. Thomas A. Bland, Jr. and Rev. David Orders officiating. Immediately following the service, the family will receive friends in the church parlor. A private family committal service will be held at Forest Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be made to First Baptist Church, P. O. Drawer 459, Morganton, NC 28680-0459.
