Evelyn Morris Wakefield, 91, passed away Thursday, January 3, 2019. Born on May 19, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Charles Morris and Mary Henson Morris.
Evelyn was a member of First Baptist Church of Morganton. She graduated in 1944 from Morganton High School. She loved crafts, crossword puzzles, and playing bingo. Evelyn was a loving mother and grandmother.
Evelyn is survived by her sons, Alan Wakefield, Barry Wakefield (Patsy), Keith Wakefield, David Wakefield; grandchildren, Jackie Wakefield, Joy McClellan, Joshua Wakefield, Blair Wakefield; six great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Evelyn was preceded in death by her first husband, Lee McLendon; son, Lee McLendon Wakefield, Jr.; brother, Vernon Morris; sister, Lillian Crisp.
The family will have a cryptside service at 2 p.m., January 7, 2019 at Burke Memorial Park Mausoleum with the Rev. Fred Schuszler officiating. The family will receive following the service.
Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
