Falls W. Price, Sr.

Falls W. Price, Sr., 97, of Valdese, NC passed away Sunday, January 29, 2017.  Born in Cleveland County, NC on July 12, 1919, he was the son of the late Plato Rollins Price and Nettie Lee Owensby Price.  Falls was a member of Drexel First Church of God.  Mr. Price was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII.  He survived the Battle of the Bulge and served in all five European campaigns.  He owned and operated Price’s Department Store and Tanglewood Trailer Park.  Falls was a song-writer and poet who loved to sing about his Lord and Savior.

Mr. Price is survived by his wife, Mary Ruth Lambert Price of the home; children, Falls Price, Jr. and wife, Susan, of Valdese, NC, Deborrah Summerscales and husband, Paul, of West Monroe, LA, Lyra Henderson and husband, John, of Drexel, NC, Yvette King and husband, Kenny, of Fullerton, NE, and Terry Price and wife, Chris, of Lenoir, NC; step-children, Clifford Smith and wife, Sharon, of Morganton, Dee Colbert and husband, Mike, of Drexel, and Cathy Byrd and husband, Jerry, of Drexel; grandchildren, Trae, MaryBeth, Patrick, Jessica, Travis, Jonathan, Jonelle, Tyler, Hallie, Sam, Mallory, K.C., Raymond, Ben, Aaron, Christopher, Cody and Jode ; 23 great-grandchildren with another on the way; and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Falls was preceded in death by his first wife, Martha McCrary Price; and siblings, Ruth Price Grindstaff, Edward Price, Jessie Price, Roy Price, Arthur Price, and David Price.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 pm, Wednesday, February 1, 2017 at Sossoman Funeral Home.  The funeral will be held at 12 pm, Thursday, February 2, 2017 at Morganton First Church of God (675 Summers Road, Morganton) with the Rev. Jon McDivitt, the Rev. Don Smith, the Rev. John Henderson, and Lt. Chaplain Travis Coffey officiating.  Burial will follow at Burke Memorial Park with military honors provided by the N.C. National Guard and the Caldwell County Veterans Honor Guard.
