Faye Marie Simmons Chapman, 92, died Wednesday, November 14, 2012. Mrs. Chapman was born in Watauga County on September 4, 1920 and was a daughter of the late Horace King Simmons and Alberta Pyatte Woody Chapman. She was a retired employee of the Burke County Public Schools and enjoyed sewing. She was an ordained Pentecostal minister.Surviving are her children and their spouses, Jack and Dot Chapman of Connelly Springs, Mildred and Lee Bollinger of Valdese, Ned and Georgia Chapman of Valdese, Frances and Junior Crane of Connelly Springs, Tony and Debbie Chapman of Belmont, Georgia and Harry Barker of Connelly Springs, and Nancy and Ray Hughes of Drexel; brothers and their wives, Lon and Vesta Pyatte and Lester and Shelby Jean Pyatte all of Drexel; and sisters, Frances Creasman of Candler and Fairland Woodward of Valdese. Mrs. Chapman is also survived by more than 100 grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by children, Sherry Powell and Rex Chapman; brothers and sisters, Fonda McLean, Charles Simmons, Letcher Pyatte, Larry Pyatte, Lesley Pyatte, Earl Simmons, Horace Simmons, Ferna Pyatte, Merle Pyatte, and Buster Simmons; and by the father of her children, Phifer Chapman.The funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 17, 2012, in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home with Rev. Jerry Hudson officiating. Burial will follow at Bollinger’s Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday at the funeral home from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. At other times the family will at the home of Mildred Bollinger on Logan Drive in Valdese.
