Florence Alene Seagle Mayfield

Florence Alene Seagle Mayfield, 84, of Morganton, NC formerly of Marion, passed away Tuesday, January 24, 2017 at College Pines Nursing Home. She was born in McDowell County on January 16, 1933 to the late Harmon McCoy Seagle and Velsie Lewis Seagle.
Florence was a retired employee of Grace Hospital. She enjoyed talking to her friends and family on the telephone and loved any kind of flowers. Her little dog, Scooby held a special place in her heart.
Florence is survived by her son, George Mayfield and wife, Penny of Morganton and “adopted” son, Mike Murphy and wife, Dawna of Cumberland, Maryland. She is also survived by brother, Charles Seagle and wife, Gail of Milledgeville, GA; brother-in-law, Bill Pyatt of Marion; sisters-in-law, Ann Browning and husband Frank, of Morganton, Pat Seagle of Yorktown, VA, and Cindy Seagle of Hartsville, SC; special friends, Barbara Mustoe and Linda Terry; nieces; and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Florence was preceded in death by her husband, Jasper Mayfield; sisters, Mary Margaret Seagle and Barbara Jo Pyatt; and brothers, Alvin, David, and Donald Seagle.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 28, 2017 at Sossoman Funeral Home. The funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m. in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home with Rev. Jerry Burnette officiating. Burial will follow in Snow Hill United Methodist Church Cemetery.
