Flossie Lee McCall, 87, of Morganton passed away Sunday, August 4, 2019 while surrounded by her sisters and family who were fortunate to have been showered with her generous love. Born on May 15, 1932 in Caldwell County, NC, she was the daughter of the late Marshall and Flora Rader McCall.
Before her retirement in 1998, Flossie worked for Caldwell County Public Schools in Nutrition Services. She was a devoted member of Conway’s Chapel Baptist Church for all the years of her life.
Flossie was a spectacular cook and an even better baker. The last biscuit or slice of her coconut cake may have started a fight or two among cousins. Visiting with her sisters and their families brought her great joy. She also enjoyed word search puzzles and watching The Little Rascals with her nieces.
Flossie is survived by her sisters, Mary McCall, Flora Mae Hardin (Ed), Jessie Deal, and Mamie Canon; twelve nieces and nephews; and twenty great-nieces and nephews, many who adopted her over their lifetime as a bonus grandparent.
In addition to her parents, Flossie was preceded in death by a brother, Vermont McCall; and sisters, Ruth Branch and Marjorie Deal.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m., Wednesday, August 7, 2019 at Conway’s Chapel Baptist Church. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. in the church with Rev. Steve Curtis officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Conway’s Chapel Baptist Church in care of Becky Shaw, 3624 Spencer Lane, Lenoir, NC 28645 or to Burke Hospice and Palliative Care, 1721 Enon Road, Valdese, NC 28690.
Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
