Frances Tallent Carpenter

Frances Tallent Carpenter, 86, of Enola Road, Morganton, NC died Tuesday, September 29, 2009 at Autumn Care of Drexel, NC. Born on October 11, 1922 in Burke County, NC, she was the daughter of the late Peter White Tallent and Bessie Jane Hudson Tallent. She was a former employee of Morganton Full Fashion Hosiery and was a retired employee of Servomation Vending. When she worked for Servomation she worked in the canteens at Premier, Highlander, Ltd., and Western Piedmont Community College. She was a very active, lifelong member of Mt. Home Baptist Church where she was a member of the W.M.U. and served on numerous church committees.Frances is survived by her son, Rex Y. Carpenter and wife, Nina L., of Morganton; a daughter, Margaret Carpenter Norman of Morganton; grandsons, Josh and Matt Norman; a great-granddaughter, Sahara Norman; brother, Clyde Tallent, Alton Tallent and wife, Mary, of Morganton, and Cecil Tallent and wife, Judy, of Morganton; a sister, Hazel Dennehy and husband, Edward, of Margate, FL; and a number of nephews and nieces.In addition to her parents, Frances was preceded in death by her husband, N. Yates Carpenter; brother, Thad and Forrest Tallent; and a son-in-law, Daniel Norman.The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, October 2, 2009 at Mt. Home Baptist Church with Rev. Jerry Gamble officiating. Burial will follow in Burke Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Mt. Home Baptist Church Building Fund, 2272 Mt. Home Church Road, Morganton, NC 28655. Sossoman Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements.
