Frances Williams Powell 94, of Valdese, died Monday, November 20, 2023. Frances was in the care of Amorem Hospice. Born in Burke County, December 29, 1928, she was the daughter of the late James Harley Williams and Naomi Sigmon Williams.
Frances was a faithful, active, and lifelong member of Christ United Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir, helped with the nursery, played handbells and was a member and former President of the United Methodist Women.
Mrs. Powell worked for Alba Waldensian in Valdese for over 45 years until her retirement in 1994.
A caring mother and grandmother, Frances is survived by her son, Alan Powell, and wife Terri of Charlotte; granddaughter Lauren Cochran and husband Travis; brother Jerry Williams and wife Marilyn of Valdese; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Frances was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years Ralph Leon Powell; two sisters Colene Cannon and Martha Jo Powell; and one brother Elmer Williams.
The funeral will be held at 3 p.m., on Sunday, November 26 at Christ United Methodist Church with the Rev. Cindy Wechter officiating. Burial will follow in Burke Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the church from 2 to 3 p.m. prior to the service. At other times, the family will be at her home.
The family would like to recognize the following people and organizations that were so instrumental in providing care and support for mom, Diane Cannon, Gina Trujillo – Handi-Care, Tony Barrier, Rev. Cindy Wechter, Rev. Bobby Hallyburton, the members of Christ United Methodist Church, the staff at College Pines, and The Berkeley. And a special thanks to Katie Bradshaw and the staff at Amorem Hospice, Valdese Patient Care Unit.

Mrs. Powell was one of the sweetest ladies I've met! No matter how bad she felt she would always smile!! I'm so glad I had the privilege to care for her. She will be missed terribly. Prayers are going up for her family.
