Frank Delbert "Deb" Lingafelt, 85, of Morganton died Saturday, September 14, 2013. Delbert was born April 2, 1928 in Burke County to the late Frank Lloyd Lingafelt and Iris Lee Franklin Lingafelt. He was an active member of Burkemont Baptist Church, where he served as deacon and usher. Delbert was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and was a retired employee of Western Piedmont Community College, where he had worked for over 20 years. He was a former employee of Mull Oil and Superior Oil. Delbert loved to garden and share his bounty with family and friends.In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Fred B. Lingafelt and a sister, Rachel L. Allman.Delbert is survived by his wife of 58 years, Betty Jean Dale Lingafelt; brother, Alexander Lingafelt and wife, Nina of Morganton; sisters Laura Whisnant, Louise Coffey, Virginia Carpenter and her husband, J.C., Ethel Morrison and Geneva King all of Morganton; brother-in-law, Nick N. Dale and wife, Bennie of Morganton and a number of nieces and nephews.A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, September 16, 2013 at Burkemont Baptist Church with Dr. David Mills and Rev. Eddy Bunton officiating. Burial will follow at Burke Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the church from 12:30 p.m. till 2:00 p.m., prior to the service. In lieu of flowers memorial may be made to a favorite charity. Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family.
