Frank M. Perkins, 87, of the Bridgewater Community went to Heaven on Saturday, April 1, 2017. Born in Burke County, NC on February 12, 1930, he was the son of the late Robert Perkins and Julia Hilliard Perkins.
Frank was a life-long member of Bridgewater Presbyterian Church where he had been an elder and a Sunday school teacher. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and owned and operated Perkins Store for 64 years. He will always be remembered for his bologna sandwich. Frank was very dedicated to his community and the people in it. He helped organize the West End Fire Department and served on the board until last month. He rescued hundreds of animals. Mr. Perkins loved to pitch horse shoes, play corn hole and croquet, and was an avid gardener.
Frank is survived by his wife, Doris Byrd Perkins of the home; sons, Doug Perkins and wife, Bonnie, of the Bridgewater Community and David G. Perkins and wife, Sheila, of Glen Alpine, NC; grandsons, William S. Perkins and wife, Carolyn and Dawson B. Perkins; a great-granddaughter, Emery A. Perkins; a brother, Richard M. Perkins; a sister, Mariana Sparks; and a number of nephews and nieces.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Perkins was preceded in death by a brother, Robert; and two sisters, Agnes and Virginia.
The family will receive friends from 10 am to 2 pm, Tuesday, April 4, 2017 at Bridgewater Presbyterian Church. Military honors will be provided by the N.C. National Guard and the Caldwell County Veterans Honor Guard.
