Frank V. Carswell

Frank V. Carswell, 86, of Morganton died Tuesday, January 8, 2013 at Grace Hospital following a brief illness. Born in Burke County, NC on June 28, 1926, he was a son of the late Rose Velt Carswell and Zennie Smith Carswell. Frank attended Blessed Hope Baptist Church in Longview.He was a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII. He attended Salem School and retired from Great Lakes Carbon Corporation with 35 years of service. In his retirement, he enjoyed building replica toys, wagons, and structures.Frank is survived by his wife, Annie Edna Hurt Carswell of the home; sons, David V. Carswell and his wife, Sandra, of Lenoir, NC and Jimmy Carswell of Morganton; grandchildren, Kendra Carswell Grose and her husband, Evan, of Lenoir, Bobby E. Carswell and his wife, Chelsea, of Morganton, and Benjamin Carswell of Dutch John, UT; a brother, John Ervin Carswell of Morganton; and a sister, Ruby C. Watson of Lenoir.In addition to his parents, Frank was preceded in death by a brother, Marvin Carswell; and sisters, Dorothy "Edna" Carswell and Cathleen Carswell.The graveside service will be held at 3:45 pm, Friday, January 11, 2013 at Mtn. View #1 Baptist Church Cemetery with the Reverends Ken Frady and Jerry Hudson officiating. Military honors will be provided by the N.C. National Guard. The family will receive friends on Friday at Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center from 2:00 until 3:00 p.m.
