Fred E. Acuff

Fred E. Acuff, 84, of Morganton, NC died Monday, February 10, 2014. Born November 18, 1929 in San Bernadino, CA, he was a son of the late Fred Theron Acuff and Marie Acuff. Fred was an active member of Table Rock Seventh-Day Adventist Church where he served in many church offices. He taught for many years at Western Piedmont Community College.Fred is survived by his wife, Peggy Langhaar Acuff of the home; children, Faye Acuff and husband, Howard Bumgarner of Morganton, Lynda Acuff Bivens of Holden Beach, NC, and Terry Acuff and wife, Angie of Morganton; grandsons, Josh Rhodes, Graham Rhodes, Weston Acuff, and Eric Powell; four great-granddaughters; and a brother, Dr. Calvin Acuff and wife, Jo Ann of Glen Alpine.In addition to his parents, Fred was preceded in death by his first wife, Chloe Emeline Graham Acuff; brothers, Ernest Morgan, Foster Morgan, and Jim Acuff; and a sister, Virginia Breen.Funeral services will be held at 5:00 p.m., Saturday, February 15, 2014 at Table Rock Seventh-Day Adventist Church with Pastor Barry Mahorney officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m.at Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center where the body will remain until placed in the church thirty minutes before the funeral hour.Memorial contributions may be made to Table Rock Seventh-Day Adventist Church, 2625 Adventist Circle, Morganton, NC 28655.
