Garland “Bud’ Marlowe Crane

Garland “Bud’ Marlowe Crane, 83, of Morganton, NC went to his Heavenly home on Wednesday, August 27, 2014. Born in Polk County, NC on August 25, 1931, he was the son of the late Robert Joseph Marlowe Crane and Victoria Bowen Crane. Bud was a faithful and devoted member of Riverside Baptist Church for 32 years, and worked diligently fulfilling numerous needs of his church. Bud retired from Henredon with 34 years of service. He was very generous with his time and resources in helping people in need, the children of Southmountain Children’s Home, and Burke United Christian Ministries. Bud enjoyed tinkering with and repairing lawn mowers. He also created various items with his wood working talent and enjoyed giving those crafts away. Bud’s greatest attribute was his generous heart. He leaves a legacy of love, kindness and helping others. May we continue his legacy and pass it on, in service to our Lord.
Mr. Crane is survived by his children, Steven Crane, Lisa Crane and Helen Duckworth and her husband, Harold “Butch”, all of Morganton; grandchildren, Katie Wise and her husband, Robbie, Terry Carswell, Richie Carswell, and Kiesha Edwards; five great-grandchildren, sisters, Ruth Webb of Forest City, NC and Betty Crane of Morganton; and a brother, Robert “J. D.” Crane of Morganton.
In addition to his parents, Bud was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Louise Crane; a brother, R. D. Culberson; and a sister, Frances Woodell.
The funeral will be held at 4:00 p.m., Sunday, August 31, 2014 in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center with the Rev. Stony Curtis officiating. Burial will follow in Burke Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 3:00 until 4:00 p.m. prior to the service. At other times the family will be at the home of Lisa Crane on Salem Road.
