Garnet Hipps Bolding

Garnet Hipps Bolding, 94, of Hickory died Tuesday, March 26, 2019.  Born in Buncombe County, NC on March 2, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Michael Roscoe Hipps and Bessie Mangum Hipps.  Garnet was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church.  She enjoyed gardening, playing bridge, and doing handcrafts.  She taught crafts at Western Piedmont Community College and enjoyed square dancing when she was able.

Garnet is survived by her sons, Ray and Michael Bolding, both of Morganton; daughters, Josie McCoy-Jones (Allen) of Spencer, NC, Jene Isaacs (Bill) of Morganton, Christine Beck of Lenoir, and Linda Costner of Morganton; 16 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; 18 great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Nancy Davis of Marion; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Garnet was preceded in death by her husband, John Bolding; brothers, Dennis and Mangum Hipps; sisters, Katherine Staton, Mary Ruth Hipps, and Ethel Hartline; and sons-in-law, Charles Costner and Luther Beck.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m., Friday, March 29, 2019 at Mt. Olive Baptist Church.  The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. in the Church with Rev. Michael Gantt officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Extension Master Gardener Volunteer Association of Burke County or to Mt. Olive Baptist Church Building Fund.
