Gene Dixon Evans

Gene Dixon Evans, 81, of Morganton, NC died Wednesday, November 24, 2010. Born in McDowell County, NC on September 15, 1929, he was the son of the late William Andrew Evans and Beulah Lee Powell Evans. Gene was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church.Gene is survived by his sons, Rev. Andy Evans and wife, Brenda, of Spindale, NC; a daughter, Cindy Evans and husband, Scott Prewitt, of Morganton; brothers, Kenneth Evans and wife, Helen, of Meade, WA and Bill Evans and wife, Sandy, of Morganton; sisters, Sue Kearns of Conover, NC and Betty Dale of Morganton; grandchildren, Billy Evans, Abby Parton, Charlie Patton, Beth Lovelace, Susan Edwards and Donna DuFresne; eight great-grandchildren; and his many friends from M & B Hardware Store.In addition to his parents, Gene was preceded in death by his wife, Shelia Ann Haynes Evans.The funeral will be held at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, November 27, 2010 at Bethel United Methodist Church with Reverends Butch Osburn and Ed Stephenson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church from 1:30 until 3:00 p.m. prior to the service.
