Geneva Clontz Hoke

Geneva Clontz Hoke, 81, of Morganton, NC died Thursday, September 12, 2013 at her residence. Born in Burke County, NC on February 9, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Harmon Clontz and Thelma Baker Moses. Geneva was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.Geneva was a 1953 graduate of the Grace Hospital School of Nursing. She began her career by working at Grace Hospital for three years and then working at Broughton Hospital for the next twenty-seven years. She was a member of the Grace Hospital School of Nursing Alumni. She was an avid needleworker and enjoyed flowers, knitting, tole painting, and basketry.Geneva is survived by her husband, Garland "Pinkey" Hoke of the home; a son, Steven Hoke and his wife, Debra, of Lexington, VA; a daughter, Kathy Hoke of Morganton; grandchildren, Andrew Hoke of Portland, OR, Michael Hoke and Jessica, of Lexington, Kaitlin Hoke of Colorado Springs, CO, Matthew Hoke of Lexington, and Laurel Morris and Sam Kayga, of Morganton; great-grandchildren, Zayden and Zoe Hoke of Lexington and Gage Kayga of Morganton; a brother, Harmon Junior Clontz and his wife, Nanena, of Morganton; a half-brother, Daniel Moses of Morganton; half-sisters, Wilma Sartain of Poway CA, Inez Hill of Morganton, and Marie Abee and her husband, Doras, of Morganton; and a number of nephews, nieces, and extended family.In addition to her parents, Geneva was preceded in death by a grandson, Zachary Hoke; a brother, Lloyd Clontz; and a half-brother, Buddy Moses.The funeral will be held at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, September 15, 2013 at Calvary Baptist Church with Dr. Larry Thompson officiating. Burial will follow in Burke Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the church from 2:00 until 3:00 p.m. prior to the service.
