George “Neal” Simmons, 72, of Morganton, NC, went to be with his Lord on Friday, January 18, 2019 at Charles George VA Medical Center. He was born in Rutherford County on July 5, 1946 to the late George Elisha Simmons and Evelyn Mae Taylor Simmons. Neal attended 1st Assembly of God Church. He was a veteran of the US Army where he was a medic during the Vietnam Conflict. He retired from Broughton Hospital. The love of his life was his family. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Jack Simmons.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Monette Simmons; daughter, Melody Simmons of Morganton; granddaughters, Logan and Haley: great-grandson, Weston; niece and nephew, Amy and David Simmons.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
