George Robert Rakestraw

George Robert Rakestraw, 85 of Morganton, went home to be with his Lord Sunday, August 15, 2021. Born on August 12, 1936, he was the son of the late Joe and Ethel Rakestraw. George was a member of Morganton Seventh-Day Adventist Church where he served as a Deacon. He was a member of the Queen of the West Lodge #70 and was a 33-Degree Mason. George retired from Broughton Hospital with 30 years of service.

George is survived by his daughters, Cathy Rakestraw and Gwendolyn Rakestraw Owens, and husband, Ronald; grandchildren, Ronnise Owens, Karawn Owens, and Tyron Rutherford; great-grandchildren, Armaun and Jaidyn Owens; brother, Isaiah Rakestraw; and a number of nieces and nephews and other extended family members.

In addition to his parents, George is preceded in death by his wife, Kay Frances Rakestraw; brothers, Joe Rakestraw, Eugene Rakestraw; sisters, Carrie Winchester, Willie Mae Norwood, Grace Winchester, Sarah Sowell, Louise Walker, Leola Avery.

The family will receive friends from 1:30pm until 2pm, Saturday, August 21, 2021 at Sossoman Funeral Home. The funeral will be at 2pm in the Colonial Chapel of the funeral home with the Pastor Steve Bietz officiating. Entombment will follow in Burke Memorial Park Mausoleum.

Due to the ongoing COVID pandemic, the family requests that all attendees wear a mask.
