George Willard King

George Willard King, 82, of Morganton, NC died Tuesday, July 5, 2011. Born in Bakersville, NC on June 19, 1929, he was the son of the late Will King and Thelma Green King. George was a member of Catawba Valley Baptist Church. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran and retired from Western Carolina Center after 30 years.George is survived by his daughters, DeNea Huffman and husband, Rex, of Connelly Springs, NC and Denise Huffman and husband, Keith, of Hampton, GA; a brother, Clinton King of Indian Trail, NC; sisters, Anna Lee Wyatt and Mary Helen Woody, both of Spruce Pine, NC; grandsons, Marcus Whisnant, Stephen Huffman, and Ryan Huffman; and five great-grandchildren.In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by his wife, Muriel King.The funeral will be held at 4:00 p.m., Friday, July 8, 2011 in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center with Rev. Albert Norville officiating. Entombment will follow in Burke Memorial Park Mausoleum. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. At other times the family with the at the residence of DeNea, 5877 Buzz Lowman St., Connelly Springs.
