Gerald Carlot Smith

Gerald Carlot Smith, 81, of Morganton, NC went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, October 20, 2022. He was born on April 8, 1941 in Burke County to the late Gravis Marshall Smith and Beulah Hawkins Smith. He attended Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. Gerald was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He retired from the NC Forestry Service after thirty plus years of service. He was a hard worker and proud farmer and mostly enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Earl Smith; sister, Frances Goins.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret Gertrude Newton Smith; daughter, Deborah Smith Griffin; son, Timothy Gerald Smith and wife, Rhonda; grandchildren, Caroline Wyatte and husband, Ethan, Brittany Vinesett and Morgan Angeline Smith; great-grandchildren, River Grace Wyatte and Willow Faith Wyatte; siblings, Mattie Poteat, Edith Riles, Max Carroll Smith and Ruth Brittain; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

The family will receive friends from 3-4pm, Sunday, October 23, 2022 at Sossoman Funeral Home. The service will begin at 4:00 in the Colonial Chapel of the funeral home with Dr. Jack Hodges and Rev. Ronnie LaFevers officiating. Entombment will follow at Burke Memorial Park Mausoleum.
