Gerald Dean Russ, 68, of Morganton passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, November 19, 2017. Born in Burke County, NC on July 6, 1949, he was the son of the late William Sidney Russ and Essie Raye Epley. Gerald worked as a master mechanic at Leviton for 42 years. He enjoyed NASCAR, drag racing, and boat racing where he assembled engines for many drivers. He also enjoyed collecting and shooting firearms, but the love of his life was spending time with and caring for his family.
A loving husband, father, and grandfather, Mr. Russ is survived by his son, Michael Russ; granddaughter, Alexandria Madison Russ; sister, Jewel Russ Poteat; brother, David Sidney Russ; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.
In addition to his parents, Gerald was preceded in death by his wife, Connie Marie Stephens Russ; son, Jeremy Dean Russ; and sister, Mary Elizabeth Russ.
The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 2 p.m., Friday, November 24 at Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. in the Colonial Chapel of the funeral home with Pastor John Whisnant officiating. Entombment will follow in Burke Memorial Park Mausoleum.
