Getty Dale Long

Getty Dale Long, 76, died Thursday, March 26, 2009, at Grace Hospital following a period of declining health. She was born February 11, 1933 in Burke County and was a daughter of the late Robert Alexander Dale, Sr. and Bessie Ross Dale. Mrs. Long was a former employee of Burke County Schools, NCSD and of Hardees. She and her late husband, Dale, loved to travel in their R.V. Getty was a member of First Baptist Church of Glen Alpine.Surviving are sons, Tony Long and his wife, Linda, of Glen Alpine, Gary Long and his wife, Lisa, of Morganton, Billy Long of Lenoir, and Roger Long of Hickory; daughter, Libby Silcox, of Hickory; sisters, Linda Dale Beck and Nancy Dale Thomas of Glen Alpine; grandchildren, Rachel Freeman, Chris Barker, Jason Long, Dustin Long, and Jessi Silcox; and a great-grandson, Austin Tyler Freeman.In addition to her parents, Getty was preceded in death by her husband, Dale L. Long; a son, John Long; brothers, Paul Dale and Robert Dale, Jr.; and by sisters, Lou Mode, Sarah Merrill, and Margaret Keaton.The funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, March 29, 2009 at First Baptist Church, Glen Alpine with Rev. Mike Brown officiating. Burial will follow in the Glen Alpine Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Saturday at Sossoman Funeral Home where the body will remain until placed in the church thirty minutes before the funeral.
