Gilbert Staley Scott

Gilbert Staley Scott, Sr., 89, of Morganton, NC died Wednesday, January 11, 2012 at Autumn Care of Drexel. Born August 15, 1922 in Guilford Co. NC, he was a son of the late William Allen Scott and Annie Lee Staley Scott. Gilbert was a retired design engineer with Thomas Built Buses in High Point, NC. He was an accomplished artist, creating works in both wood and metal.Gilbert is survived by two sons, Danny Lee Scott and wife, Deborah of Morganton, and Gilbert Staley Scott, Jr. and wife, Janice of Lexington, NC; and grandchildren, Zachary D. Scott and wife, Anna, Cyrus M. Scott, and Melissa L. Fender.Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m., Friday, January 13, 2012 at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church with Rev. Francis King officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the church parish hall. Burial will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, January 14, 2012 at Floral Garden Memorial Park in High Point. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary’s Episcopal Church Organ Fund, 140 St. Mary’s Church Rd., Morganton, NC 28655. Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
