Goldie Cannon Reece

Goldie Cannon Reece, 89, of Vine Arden Rd. in Morganton died Tuesday, December 23, 2008 at Morganton Long Term Care following a brief illness. She was born January 10, 1919 in Burke County, NC, and was a daughter of the late Ause Cannon and Hattie Powell Cannon. Goldie was a member of Asheville Street Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school. She also had been a Sunday school teacher at various other churches.Goldie is survived by sons, Phillip Reece and wife, Lena, of Morganton, and Joseph Reece of Sawmills, NC; daughters, Ruth Patton of Drexel, NC, and Naomi Janie Young of Hildebran, NC; eight grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. William Newland Reece; a daughter, Wanda McFalls; a son, David Reece; and a sister, Globie Brittain.Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, December 26, 2008 at Asheville Street Baptist Church with Rev. Doug Goforth officiating. Burial will follow at Burke Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the church Friday one hour before the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Asheville Street Baptist Church Building Fund, 119 Colony Street, Morganton, NC 28655. Sossoman Funeral Service is assisting the family with arrangements.
