Grace Cannon Saunders

Grace Cannon Saunders, 94, of Pax Hill Rd. in Morganton died Monday, December 14, 2009 at Grace Hospital following a brief period of declining health. She was born August 30, 1915 in Caldwell County to the late Reuben Henry Cannon and Verona Webb Cannon. Grace was a lifelong and faithful member of Bethel Baptist Church. She was a valued neighbor who provided loving care for many children throughout the years. Beloved by her friends and extended family, her kindness and generosity will be sorely missed.Grace is survived by a grandson, Reuben Dean Saunders of Brooklyn, NY; daughter-in-law, Rebecca B. Saunders of Greensboro, NC; sisters, Mary Lee Pipes of Opelika, AL, Lillian Leonard of Morganton, and Courtney Yount of Granite Falls; a brother, Max Cannon of Valdese; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Ruth and Bill McNeely; and numerous nieces and nephews.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Howard A. Saunders; sons, Harvey Dean Saunders and Tony Max Saunders; two brothers, Joe and Vernon; and two sisters, Margaret and Myrtle.Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, December 18, 2009 at Bethel Baptist Church with Rev. Gary Cline and Rev. Barry Cannon officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday one hour before the service at the church.
