Grace Carolyn McGalliard

Grace Carolyn McGalliard, 75, of Glen Alpine, NC died Tuesday, May 13, 2014. Born in Burke County, NC on March 24, 1939, she was the daughter of the late James Avery "Abe" McGalliard and Lyda Arney McGalliard. Grace was very active in the Church of God in Hickory. She retired from Shadowline, Inc. and then worked for and retired from the credit union at Southern Devices. She enjoyed traveling with her senior group and was an avid reader. Grace will be dearly missed by her family, whom she loved.Miss McGalliard is survived by her brothers, Clyde "Jim" McGalliard and his wife, Shirley, of Glen Alpine and John David McGalliard and his wife, Faye, of Morganton; a sister, Mary Martha May of Glen Alpine; and nephews and nieces, Edna Scott, Ruby Huffman, Susan Snider, Beverly Roland, Connie Hallyburton, Bryan Anderson, Chris McGalliard, Eddie McGalliard, Terri Piercy, Eva Leigh Moses, Avery McGalliard, Tammy McGalliard, Aileen Cooper, Lynn May, Danny May, and Jeffery May.In addition to her parents, Grace was preceded in death by her brothers, James "Bud" McGalliard; and sisters, Sarah Mae Johnson, Betty Aileen Fleming, and Lyda Louise Anderson.

The funeral will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, May 16, 2014 in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center with Pastor Ronnie Lyle and Pastor Stanley Glover officiating. Burial will follow in Glen Alpine Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 11:30 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. prior to the service.Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one’s choosing.
