Grace Cook Hughes

Grace Cook Hughes, 75, of Morganton, NC went home to be with her Lord & Savior at her residence on Saturday, April 13, 2013. She was born February 9, 1938 in Yancey County, NC to the late Ralph Estes Cook and Margarette Wilson Cook. Grace was a member at Freedom Baptist Church. She worked for many years at several area textile companies and as a caregiver with Handicare. She was a devoted caregiver to her parents and other family members. She was an avid gardener and a loving wife, mother and grandmother.In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by, grandson, Chad Hughes; brothers, Luther Cook, Lloyd Cook, Thermon Cook; and sisters, Deborah Cook and Wilma Cook.Grace is survived by her husband of 54 years, Charles B. Hughes; sons, Burdette Hughes and his wife, Pat, Darryl Hughes and his wife, Daphne, Doug Hughes and his wife, Kim all of Morganton, Joshua Hughes and Caleb Hughes both of the home; daughters, Norma Speagle and her husband, Randy, Shannon Hughes and Andréanna Furr all of Morganton; grandchildren, Jason Hughes, Jimbob Hughes, Chris Hughes, Darlene Hughes, Crystal Hughes, Stephanie Robinson and her husband, Daniel, Dawson Speagle, Beth Hughes, Bynum Hughes and his wife, Lisa, Wade Shuping, Michael Shuping, Amanda Shuping, Jamie Mayfield, and Donnie Webb; 18 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; special Caregiver, Sara Sigmon; a special sister, Rita Robinson and her husband, Clarence; brothers, James Cook and his wife, Ruby of Connelly Springs and Roscoe Cook of Burnsville; sister, Joyce Wheeling of Valdese; and sister-in-law, Ann Cook of Connelly Springs.The funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 16, 2013 at Faith Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Terry Robinson and Leonard Lindsay. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
