Grace Early DeHetre

Grace Early DeHetre, 88, of Morganton, NC went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, August 20, 2022.

Born in Rutherford County, NC on September 1, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Robert Early and Effie Hyder Early.  Grace was a member of St. Matthews United Methodist Church.  She was devoted to her faith and never strayed from her beliefs.  Grace retired from Grace Hospital with over 20 years of service as a switchboard operator.  She enjoyed working in the yard, taking care of others, and especially spending time with her family.  She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.

Grace is survived by her sons, Walter “Skip” DeHetre and his wife, Aggie, and Edward DeHetre; daughter, Judy Banks; grandchildren, Misty Raines, Dustin DeHetre, Kelley Arrand, Tracey Glover, and Deanna Minges; and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and extended family.

In addition to her parents, Grace was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Walter DeHetre; and 14 siblings.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m., Wednesday, August 24, 2022 at Sossoman Funeral Home.  The funeral will be held at 3 p.m. in the Colonial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Kale Wright officiating.  Burial will follow in Burke Memorial Park.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
