Grace “Elaine” Baker Yount

Grace “Elaine” Baker Yount, 71 of Morganton, NC died Sunday, June 12, 2016. Born February 16, 1945 in Catawba County, NC, she was a daughter of the late Jay Baker and Nora Settlemyre Baker Hilton.  She was a graduate of Hickory High School and of secretarial training school.  Elaine began her career at First National Bank in Hickory, where she met her husband of 44 years, F. Stephen Yount.  For 25 years, she was employed as an executive secretary at Siecor Corp., Hickory which later became Corning Cable Systems.  She was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church.  Elaine enjoyed gardening, walking, and spending time with friends and family.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Steve; a brother, Gary Baker; and a sister, Edwina Baker.

Surviving are her children, Forrest Stephen Yount and wife, Erica, of Waxhaw, NC and Sarah Yount Pons and husband, Mitch, of Matthews, NC; grandchildren, Kelsea and Samuel Yount and Sidney and Mason Pons; brothers, Rudolph Baker and wife, Shirley, of Hickory and Lewis Baker and wife, Jeanine, of Hildebran, NC; and a sister, Martha Jones and husband, Joseph, of Statesville, NC.

A celebration of Elaine’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, June 17, 2016 at Calvary Lutheran Church, 119 N. King St., Morganton, NC 28655 with the Rev. Paul Carlson officiating. Following the service, the family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall.
