Grace Elizabeth Carswell

Grace Elizabeth Carswell, 75, loving wife, mother, sister, and grandmother, died Tuesday April 12, 201l. She was born in Burke County on January 18, 1936 and was a daughter of the late Al and Elvie Whisnant Carswell Herron. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a brother, William Carswell, and great-granddaughter, Cheyenne Autumn Carswell Whisnant. Grace was a member of Sunnyside Baptist Church where she was a member of the choir and never missed an opportunity to speak of the Lord. She was an avid flower gardener and an also enjoyed sewing.Surviving are her husband, Sylvannes "S. S." Carswell of the home; children and their spouses, Donald and Judy Carswell, Naomi and Bobby Chapman, and Sandra and Dean Buff; brother, Clayton Carswell; sister, Shirley Ann Chapman; grandchildren, Jodie Carswell, Timmy Carswell, Jamie Buff, Stephanie Mace, Amanda Martin, Michael Chapman, and Mark Chapman; and great-grandchildren, Corey Carswell, Preston Buff, Gavin Mace, Gracie Carswell, Garret Carswell, Katie Buff, Taylor Buff, and Katie Gwaltney.Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, April 15, 2011 in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman with Reverends Larry Combs and Burl Sain officiating. Burial will follow at Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour before the service.
