Gregory Owens Carswell

Gregory Owens Carswell, 70, of Valdese, NC, died on Wednesday, August 22, 2018, after a period of declining health. He was born on September 18, 1947 in Burke County to the late Nunn Carswell and Beatrice Cooper Carswell. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Vitrone.

He is survived by a daughter, Blake Carswell of Valdese; brother, Bradley Carswell and wife, Gayla of Valdese; granddaughters, Marianna Vitrone of Boynton Beach, FL and Makenna Vitrone of Morganton, NC; former wife and mother of the children, Patricia Drinkard; son-in-law, Mark Vitrone; special caregivers, Lillie Setzer of Connelly Springs and Kenneth Setzer, Jr., extended family, friends and theatre community.

The family will receive friends from 3:00-5:00pm, Sunday, August 26, 2018 at Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center. Memorial contributions may be made to the Arts Department, Old Rock School, 400 Main St. W, Valdese, NC 28690 or to Autumn Care of Drexel, P.O. Box 1278, Drexel, NC 28619.
