Grover “Warren” Bailey, 86, of Morganton, NC, passed away Wednesday, July 26, 2023.

Born in Burke County, NC on July 12, 1937, he was the son of the late Grover Charles Bailey and Mary Alice Shuping Bailey.

Warren was a veteran of the US Army and retired from Broughton Hospital in 1992. He was a founding member of Brookwood Baptist Church where he had been a Sunday school teacher and former chairman of the deacons. Warren and his wife were the first couple married in the church. He had been unable to attend lately due to his declining health. Mr. Bailey enjoyed gardening, making things, woodworking, watching westerns, playing golf, and listening to Gospel music, especially Johnny Cash.

Warren is survived by his wife of 59 years, Faye Tallent Bailey; daughter, Crystal Bailey (Timothy Robinson); brother, Terry Bailey (Linda); sister-in-law, Kathy Bailey; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Warren was preceded in death by a brother, Phil Bailey.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 4 p.m., Monday, July 31, 2023 at Mt. Home Baptist Church. The funeral will be held at 4 p.m. in the church with Rev. David Orders officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors provided by the NC National Guard.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mt. Home Baptist Church or Sunnyside Baptist Church, both in Morganton.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
