Guy N. "Paw" Davis

Guy N. "Paw" Davis, 85, of Morganton went to his Heavenly Home to be reunited with Maw on Tuesday, April 9, 2013. Born in Madison County, NC on April 16, 1927, he was the son of the late Grady and Bessie Davis. Guy was a member of Nowlings Chapel Freewill Baptist Church. He was a former employee of Drexel Heritage Furnishings and retired from Henredon Furniture. Following his retirement, he enjoyed woodcrafts and gardening. A family man, Guy especially loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He loved and was loved by many, and he never met a stranger.Guy is survived by his children, Peggy Davis Johnson and her husband, James; Kenneth H. Davis and his wife, Kathy; Gary N. Davis and his wife, Judy, Judy Davis Dale and her husband, Randy; Bobby Joe Davis and his wife, Nancy; Vicki Davis Mayfield and her husband, David; Randy Olin Davis and his wife, Donna; and Pamela Davis Moses and her husband, Jeff; thirteen grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; a brother, Lock Davis and his wife, Liz; sisters, Zora Chapman and her husband, Lee; Ellen Roper and her husband, Junior; Iva Waters and her husband, Dean; and Zona Purkey and her husband, Jerry; and a number of nephews and nieces.In addition to his parents, Guy was preceded in death by his wife, Velma Marie Taylor Davis, who he took care of in her later years; a grandchild, Cody Davis; a brother, James Davis; and two sisters, Zelda Rice and Thelma Tipton.The funeral will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, April 12, 2013 at Nowlings Chapel Freewill Baptist Church with the Rev. Darvy Hensley and the Rev. Jack Moses officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. prior to the service.
