Gwen Olivia Watts, 64, of Morganton, NC died suddenly Saturday, November 12, 2016 in her North Carolina home. Gwen was born in Morganton on October 26, 1952, but was a long time permanent resident of Fort Myers, Florida. She was the daughter of the late “Bill” William Ross and recently deceased Lottie Smith Tallent.
Gwen is survived by her children, “Jack” Clyde Butler Jr of Morganton NC, Melissa Crawford and Cynthia Crawford Holt of Fort Myers FL, two Fort Myers grandchildren Logan Holt and Maya Holt, two Morganton grandchildren Amber Butler and Landon Butler, and 3 great grandchildren. Gwen is also survived by her brother David Ross, sister Ann Deitz and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and peripheral family that she loved dearly.
Gwen was a devoted mother, grandmother and friend of many. She was filled with a zest for life and had many amazing talents, among them quilting, traveling, baking, and anything that was an adventure. Her family and friends will always remember her as loving, kind and an extremely generous soul. She was truly an angel that received her wings entirely too early.
The family will receive friends and family to share memories from 4:30-5:30pm on Thursday, November 17, 2016 at Sossoman Funeral Home in Morganton, NC and from 5:00-7:00pm on Sunday, November 20, 2016 at The Butterfly Estates in Fort Myers, FL. Per Gwen’s request, these events will be a celebration of life. Memorial contributions may be made in her name to The Clinic for Rehabilitation of Wildlife, 3883 Sanibel Captiva Rd, Sanibel, FL 33957 or to The Butterfly Estates, 1815 Fowler St, Fort Myers, FL 33901.
